Properties of MIOX^® Micaceous Iron Oxide in the Paint & Varnish Industry

Micaceous iron oxide coatings have been well known for their unique protective qualities for over a century. The inclusion of MIOX^® in the formula now brings added long time corrosion protection which helps prolong maintenance-free periods and reduces costs.

Corrosion coatings pigmented with MIOX^® micaceous iron oxide form a dense, shiny layer after application. During application and the subsequent drying period, the lamellar particles rearrange themselves preferably parallel to the substrate and overlapping each other. In this way, they form a dense barrier layer against environmental influences such as salt spray, sulphur dioxide, ammonium salts, and other air pollutants. The penetration of moisture and oxygen is also efficiently prevented.

By reflecting UV rays they also protect the binding agents against degradation thus prolonging the life-span of the coating.
