MIOX® in Brake Pads and Linings

MIOX® SG is a traditional component in friction materials. Owing to its lamellar structure and the hardness of the mineral one could identify improvement of important properties of brake lining compositions and friction materials:

 MIOX<sup>®</sup> in Brake Pads and Linings
 
  • Good reinforcement of the composition, as the lamellar mineral shows a good polymer-filler interaction. As MIOX® SG particle size distribution contains a low fine content only, which results in a low specific surface, the resin demand is low.
  • Improved coefficient of friction, but low brake-disk or drum abrasion due to the moderate hardness (MOHS 6.0-6.5)
  • Improved heat dissipation due to the high thermo-conductivity of MIOX® SG
  • Noise reduction


    MIOX® SG is used in combination with Kevlar and other fibers, e.g. chopped glass strands, steel wool or copper. At the beginning, also combinations with asbestos were typical, but today only non-asbestos (NA) materials are in use because of health hazards.
